(Moncton, NB) – December 2, 2013 – Adam Pineault was living every man's dream. A professional hockey player with a charming wife at his side, he has played in nine hockey leagues around the word, including the Moncton Wildcats. But on June 6th, 2011, the day his wife Monique was diagnosed with cancer, everything changed. Adam knows all too well that cancer research and effective treatment can saves lives.

The holiday season is thetime of year when many individuals and families, like the Pineault family, celebrate their good fortune or commemorate lost loved ones by giving to worthwhile causes in their communities. The Atlantic Cancer Research Institute (ACRI) and Acadia Life are inviting the public to consider ACRI as one such worthy cause this holiday season with the announcement of their Acadia Life Holiday Challenge.

During this exciting matching gift campaign, every donation made from now until January 5, 2014 will be matched dollar for dollar by our generous partner, Acadia Life. Funds raised with the Acadia Life Holiday Campaign will not only help sustain ACRI's leading-edge research program and the patient benefits that derive from it, it will also help us save even more lives.

"We think it's important, being a life insurance institution, to be supporting this health research center of excellence, knowing ACRI's research will benefit Atlantic Canadians, while focusing on our region's specific cancer origins," said Mr. David Losier, CEO of Acadia Life.

"By contributing to the Holiday Challenge campaign, you are supporting ongoing research that ultimately helps us find solutions to cancer," said Dr. Rodney Ouellette, President and Scientific Director of ACRI. "We must not forget that the existing treatments, interventions and therapies that exist today, all started out as research projects."
