Atlantic Cancer Research Institute and Prostate Cancer Canada announce Local Moncton Hero

Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic Region and the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute announced that they are once again teaming up for Prostate Cancer Canada's annual Wake Up Call Breakfast. Chris Bacich, General Manager, BMW Moncton and Kevin Darling, VP Commercial Financial Services, Eastern NB & PEI, RBC are Co-Chairs of the 2014 Moncton Wake Up Call. Today they announced that His Worship, Mayor George LeBlanc will be the recipient of the 2014 Local Hero Award at the breakfast event on September 9th at Delta Beausejour.

"The Wake Up Call Breakfast is about raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer. It is often a starting point for having a conversation about this disease" says Kevin Darling, VP, Commercial Financial Services, RBC and Moncton Wake Up Call Breakfast Committee co-chair.

"We are very excited to have the Mayor as our Local Hero for the Moncton Wake Up Call Breakfast" says Chris Bacich, General Manager, BMW Moncton and Moncton Wake Up Call Breakfast Co-Chair. "His continued support and advocacy has made a significant impact on prostate cancer awareness in our city. His presence at the event reinforces the important role that community leaders play in helping us raise awareness for a disease that will affect 1 in 8 Canadian men in their lifetime."

On behalf of the researchers and staff of the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute, we are pleased to once again be a part of the Wake Up Call Breakfast," said Dr. Rodney Ouellette, President and Scientific Director at ACRI. "This event is effectively raising awareness of prostate cancer and supporting cutting edge research that will lead to better solutions for patients. Our best hope to overcome this disease is through research that focuses on prevention, early detection and better treatment. Over the past few years, the community has overwhelmingly supported the Wake Up Call Breakfast and generously contributed to its success. With this tremendous support ACRI is able to continue its prostate cancer research, with the ultimate goal of finding ways to improve outcomes for patients and their families."

Our regional partners, RBC, TELUS, and Economical Insurance are playing a leading role in the development and success of these breakfasts across Atlantic Canada.

Prostate Cancer Canada's Wake Up Call Breakfast is the only Canada-wide business breakfast series dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer. Over the past decade the event has attracted more than 26,000 business professionals and raised nearly $3 million for prostate cancer education, research, and support.
